golden threads
freud and rome
Date: Mon, 3 May 1993
From: Robin Mitchell
Subject: Freud and Rome
Again I've just started reading a book published last year by Cornell UP, _Translations of Power: Narcissism and the Unconscious in Epic History._ The second chapter is on the Aeneid, and seems to have much material and bibliography on the function of Rome in Freud's thought. The introductory chapter is a fairly spirited defense of psychoanalysis against the New Historicism in general and Greenblatt in particular.
