UMich: Classical Archaeology/Generalist (one year)


The Department of Classical Studies at the University of Michigan
invites applications for the position of Visiting Assistant Professor
in Classical Archaeology beginning September 1, 2004. This is a
sabbatical replacement position for one year. The successful candidate
will be expected to teach introductory courses in classical
archaeology, possibly a graduate seminar in their particular area of
expertise, as well as upper level undergraduate courses in archaeology
and classical civilization. Candidates must have completed the Ph.D.
by August 2004. Other desirable qualifications are demonstrated
achievement in undergraduate teaching, a record of publication, and

POSTDOC: Bryn Mawr

BRYN MAWR COLLEGE. Post-doctoral Fellowship in the Humanities. One-year fellowship for a specialist in Classical and Near Eastern Archaeology. Ph.D. required; degree date no earlier than 1998 or later than May 2003. Applications are encouraged from those who have been teaching three years or more. BrockU: Greek Archaeology (tenure track)


The Department of Classics at Brock University invites applications for a probationary (tenure-track) appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor, effective July 1, 2004.  It is subject to budgetary approval.

We seek a scholar with an outstanding record of research specializing in Greek Art/Architecture and Archaeology; eligible sub-fields include Bronze Age through Hellenistic; a theoretical perspective of the past is preferred.  Research-productive field experience is required.

Teaching responsibilities will primarily include courses at all levels of Greek art/architecture and archaeology, archaeological theory, practice and method; world prehistory, as well as Latin and/or Greek at the beginning and intermediate levels and an introductory course in Greek Civilisation.  The successful candidate will be expected to share responsibility for organizing and teaching the archaeological field school offered during the summer.  Demonstrable excellence in teaching and full-time teaching experience is preferred.  Candidates must have the Ph.D. in hand at the assumption of duties.

The Classics Department has recently expanded to include seven permanent members teaching a variety of courses towards pass and honours degrees in Classical Studies, Classical Languages (Greek and Latin at all levels) and Ancient Art and Archaeology (including the languages).  Besides these major programmes, we also offer introductory courses in mythology and in civilization to satisfy a general requirement, and first-year language courses to satisfy a language requirement.  The Department traditionally incorporates material culture in its approach to the discipline.

Trinity College: Classical Art/Archaeology Generalist (three year)


The Classics Department at Trinity College invites applications for a
three-year, full-time position at the rank of Visiting Assistant
Professor, beginning in August 2004. We seek a specialist in
classical art and archaeology who has the ability to teach courses in
language, literature, and other aspects of classical civilization.
This person will also be expected to contribute to the Department's
senior seminar, undergraduate advising, and extracurricular programs.
Completion of the Ph.D. by the time of appointment and independent
teaching experience are strongly preferred. Selected applicants will
be interviewed at the APA Annual Meeting in San Francisco, CA,
