Authors for Latin Projects: Hippocrene Books
Hippocrene Books is an independent, New York based publishing house specializing in foreign language dictionaries and international interest trade titles.
We are currently seeking authors for two Latin projects (Beginner’s Latin and English-Latin/Latin-English Concise Dictionary) in accordance with the following series:
1) The Beginner’s series, which now includes more than 30 languages, is designed to lay the foundations of grammar for students and those interested in self-study. Through lessons, exercises, dialogues, and examples authors are expected to provide users with the basic tools needed to understand and communicate effectively at an elementary level. Individuals with strong writing skills and teaching experience are encouraged to apply.
2) The Concise Dictionary series is compact bilingual dictionary that gives users a basic lexicon of 8,000 words (on either side; minimum of 16,000 in total) in a simple and easy-to-use format. Hippocrene currently has a list of some 5,000 words that contracted author(s) can use to help compile the dictionary. A short guide to pronunciation and a grammar section are also required from potential authors. Linguists, classicists, and translators are best suited for this project. If either of these projects seems intriguing to you or one of your colleagues I would be happy to send you further information such as sample books and guidelines. Potential author(s) are expected to provide sample pages in a timely manner before being contracted.
Interested candidates, please contact me by email at hippocrene.books@verizon.net.
