8.00 p.m. |DCIVC| King Arthur
dna

8.00 p.m. |HISTC|Skull Wars
How did the 20th century come to understand and accept our
evolutionary past? In 1924, a human skull believed to be the first
hint of human evolution in the world, was found in South Africa by
neurologist Raymond Dart. While the discovery made headlines around
the world, most scientists rejected this possibility, believing
instead that all humans evolved from Asia.
South African scientist Robert Broom, however, immediately
appreciated the find’s significance and began his life’s mission -- a
search for more skulls. In 1936, in the Sterkfontein caves of South
Africa, he found the skulls that would prove that Africa was the
birthplace of human evolution.

8.00 p.m. |DISCC| Xtreme Mysteries: King Tuts Tomb
Forensic scientists are still trying to explain the cause of the
death of King Tut, and the unexplained deaths of those who opened and
inspected the tomb; could they have stumbled on to the beginnings of
biological warfare?

8.00 p.m. |PBS| Egypt Eternal: The Quest for Lost Tombs
Outside Cairo, in the shadow of Egypt's first pyramid, is a city of
the dead known as Saqqara. Here French archaeologist Alain Zivie has
discovered tombs built for some of the highest-ranking dignitaries of
Egypt's New Kingdom period. NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC follows Zivie and his
team for two years as they delve deep into an underground labyrinth.
One discovery is a tomb belonging to an ambassador who negotiated a
peace treaty between the warring Egyptians and the Hittites during
the reign of Ramses II. In a funeral chamber filled with thousands of
cat mummies, rare artifacts suggest that the tomb originally belonged
to the royal nurse of the young pharaoh-to-be, Tutankhamun. The
program corresponds to a feature story in the September 2002 issue of
National Geographic magazine.

9.00 p.m. |HINT|Lost Civilizations: Mesopotamia: Return to Eden
Leap back through time as this Emmy Award-winning series travels to
the Fertile Crescent to recreate the ancient past using dramatic
reenactments, visits to actual locations, and recent archaeological
discoveries. This episode, narrated by Sam Waterston, explores
Ancient Mesopotamia, now located in Iraq, examines evidence of
Sumeria, Babylon, and Assyria and the origins of Christian, Jewish,
and Muslim faiths, and follows clues leading to the Garden of Eden,
Tower of Babel, and Noah's Ark.

10.00 p.m. |HINT|Time Team: Netheravon, Wiltshire
Our high-speed archaeological team, headed by Tony Robinson
(Baldrick in "Blackadder") and archaeologist Mick Aston, finds itself
inside a partially abandoned army barracks in Netheravon in
Wiltshire, England. In 1907, Colonel Hawley discovered part of a
mosaic in what he believed was part of a Roman villa (circa 300 AD).
Now, for the first time, the British Army has allowed archaeologists
inside the barbed wire to check out the colonel's theory--and they
have only three days.

7.00 p.m. |HINT|The Great Empire: Rome: Age of Emperors
After Caesar's murder, his great-nephew Augustus was victorious in
the civil wars that followed, becoming the first emperor. Host Joe
Mantegna explores this sensational, scandalous age when palace plots,
hostile takeovers, and imperial family intrigues were humdrum.
Features Augustus, Caligula, Claudius, and Nero, among others.

8.00 p.m. |HINT|Gods & Goddesses
The world of the Ancient Greeks lives on today through its
mythology. For countless generations prior to biblical times, tales
of gods and goddesses were passed down by storytellers and interwoven
into traditions and philosophies. Each city devoted itself to
particular gods. But these gods also had human frailties. Where did
the pantheon originate? Did any of the stories in Greek mythology
actually occur? We look at new archaeological evidence that supports
the possibility.

10.00 p.m. |HINT|Cleopatra's World: Alexandria Revealed
This look at the life of Cleopatra may surprise you. Our 2-hour
special suggests that she may not have been a calculating seductress,
but rather a loving wife who risked everything to preserve her great
city's heritage.

6.00 p.m. |DISCU| King Arthur
In 1998, while digging in Cornwall, England, a team of
archaeologists uncovered an eight inch piece of slate. It had a few
barely visible words scratched on it, unleashing a wave of
controversy. This could be final proof of the existence of King
Arthur.

8.00 p.m. |DTC|Rome: Power & Glory: The Rise
The beginnings of the Roman Empire are shrouded in mystery. Without
armies, palaces, or priests, the Romans conquered and ravaged the
best of other civilizations.

8.00 p.m. |HINT| Jerusalem: Holy Deadly City
The history of the city that is the spiritual center of three of the
world's major religions. Explores the mysteries hidden under the
city, far from the view of tourists, and shows what the city was like
at the time of the great kings, David and Solomon.

9.00 p.m. |DTC|Rome: Power & Glory: Legions of Conquest
At the height of military power, the Roman Empire stretched from
Scotland to the Sahara. Yet the same traits that created this vast
expansion eventually turned the Roman military into an unwieldy and
self-serving force of destabilization.

10.00 p.m. |DTC|Rome: Power & Glory: Seduction of Power
Trace the evolution of Roman politics from the world's first
representative government through the lives of Gracchi, Julius
Caesar, Nero, and Septimius Severus and into a tumultuous and
theatrical display of power over substance.

6.00 p.m. |DTC|Vesuvius: Deadly Fury
In 79 AD, eruptions from Mount Vesuvius buried the city of Pompeii.
A burning wave of gas shot out from the side of Vesuvius killing the
inhabitants of neighboring Herculaneum in just four minutes.
Archaeologists look to these bodies for historical clues.

7.00 p.m. |HISTU|History vs. Hollywood: King Arthur
How true is Hollywood to history? Through interviews with
historians, cast, and production team, and extensive film clips, we
compare history to "King Arthur", Jerry Bruckheimer Films' and
Touchstone Pictures' spectacular epic tale of one man's destiny to
become king. Antoine Fuqua directs the "untold story that inspired
the legend" with Clive Owen as the reluctant leader, Keira Knightley
as the beautiful Guinevere, Stephen Dillane (Merlin), Ioan Gruffudd
(Lancelot), and Hugh Dancy (Galahad).

8.00 p.m. |HISTU|The Quest for King Arthur
For centuries, the adventures of King Arthur and his fabled court
have dominated the imagination of the western world. But how did this
overpowering legend begin and what truth lies behind the enduring
story of Arthur, King of Britons? In this 2-hour exploration of the
Arthurian medieval myths, we examine the tantalizing historical facts
behind the story of this band of deathless heroes and illuminate the
contemporary quest by researchers to establish if the 6th-century
warlord truly existed.

10.00 p.m. |HISTU| Banned from the Bible
In a 2-hour special, we scrutinize ancient writings that didn't
"make the cut" in the battle to create a Christian Bible in the new
religion's first few centuries. Biblical archaeologists and scholars
examine why they were left out and if others might yet be found.
Beginning with the little-known Life of Adam and Eve, we also peruse
the Book of Jubilees, the Book of Enoch, the Gospel of Thomas, the
Protevangelium of James, the Gospel of Mary, the Gospel of Nicodemus,
and the Apocalypse of Peter.

7.00 p.m. |AWOTV| Investigating History: The Curse of King Tut
Tutankhamun died young, forgotten by his people, but gained
everlasting glory for the treasures buried with him--and infamy for
the deaths of those who uncovered his tomb. Now, 82 years after the
opening of his tomb, epidemiologist Mark Nelson examines biological
agents left in his tomb and looks at the life, death, and possible
murder of the Boy-King. Egyptologist Emily Teeter, police profiler
Mike King, and Dr. James Harris, the last man allowed to X-ray Tut's
skull, add their deductions
