For the past few weeks I haven't really done any ClassiCarnival because the Classical blogosphere has been relatively quiet. In fact, I've been thinking of making better use of feedsweep type things (Google has one which I'm going to try next week some time) and only highlighting very interesting things from the Classical blogosphere. For today, however, my goal is to Get My Inbox to Empty (for you GTD fans out there) and just give a list of the little tidbits that have accumulated since the beginning of the school year (maybe a couple weeks before that). In no particular order ...

Let's begin with some of Father Foster's musings:

Encyclical Delivered (on Pius XI)
What Latin (on the Latin of Augustine, Ignatius of Loyola, and others)
Fame to Magnificat

Then we'll throw in today's Get Fuzzy comic ...

I found this snippet from Mineweb interesting:

Apollo has formed a strategic relationship with fellow Australian resource company Artemis Resources Limited ("Artemis" ASX code: ARV) whereby Artemis will act as joint lead manager for the Apollo Offer and also provide management services and expertise in sourcing potential new tenements and investments for Apollo.

I am also struck by an increasing (it seems) number of pointless (it seems) press releases about ancient personnages ... here's one about Marius ...

In this a.m.'s Explorator, we mention this sale of a property in the UK, which includes remains of a bathing complex built for Roman naval officers ...

It pains me to inform you of Tertullian.org being offline for the rest of the month due to increased traffic ...

The August 2007 issue of the APA Newsletter is online ...

William Peck (thanks!) sent in an ad sort of thing for a regular Latin Mass in Detroit ...

Dorothy King (thanks!) sent in the link for this Timewatch episode of Julius Caesar's Greatest Battle:

The Fall 2007 issue of the CSA newsletter is now online ...

Andrew Szegedy-Maszak (thanks!) sent in this Early Harvest item from the New Republic (which I haven't had a chance to look at, but which obviously has ClassCon)

Alun had a nice bit of wallpaper for Classics types ...

A new article on the Ancient Narrative site:

Julia Kindt, "Apollo’s Oracle in Euripides’ Ion. Ambiguous Identities in Fifth-Century Athens"

Mata Kimasitayo has sent in a number of political items which I usually ClassiCarnivalize, as well as some other items of interest (thanks!):

America can only dream of a legacy rivalling that of the Roman Empire (FT Letter)

Thucydides vs. Victor Davis Hanson Bogus scholarship in support of a failed policy (antiwar.com)

Aristotle on Tyrants and War (Harper's)

Virgil on the Laws of War (Harper's)
Translation of Eclogue IV (ditto)
Novus Ordo Seclorum (ditto)

Similiter from Diana Wright (thanks!):

The General Does Battle With . . . a Broken Mike

A couple of new blogs of note ... Ulrich Schmitzer has started Marginalien zu Ovid (in German) ... Ramiro Sánchez-Crespo Dalmau adds to our list of Spanish language Classics blogs with Historia Clasica ...

In other news, a big box of Fortean Times arrived yesterday, so Barry Baldwin's columns should resume next week.
