Six-Hour Stipendiary Lectureship in Ancient History

Balliol College proposes, if a suitable candidate applies, to appoint a six-hour Stipendiary Lecturer
in Ancient History for Michaelmas Term 2007.

The lecturer will be required to teach up to six hours of Greek History (Archaic History and 5th
Century to 404 B.C.) for the Honour Schools of Classics, Ancient and Modern History, and Classical
Archaeology and Ancient History, and to take some responsibility for the general organisation of
these courses (including Admissions), and for pastoral care of students; teaching for the historical
options in Literae Humaniores Honour Moderations and CAAH Moderations will also be expected.
The lecturer will receive a stipend of £3,578 and certain common room rights. The College has a
preference for appointing someone whose main specialism is in a central period of Greek history;
and applicants will be free to make exchange arrangements with other colleges in respect of the
options which they are unable to cover.
